Monarch of the seas — Queen Mary 2

Adelaide turned out in force to witness the arrival today of the grandest lady of the sea, Queen Mary 2, at Outer Harbour.

Shuttle buses brought passengers to Semaphore and Port Adelaide and many of the passengers were from Melbourne and Sydney on their way to Cape Town, South Africa.

The huge vessel towered over the Outer Harbour terminal and the mast could be seen as far away as Mawson Lakes.

Halfway around the world on a three-month voyage, Queen Mary 2 carries 2000 passengers and 1500 crew; she has 14 decks with five swimming pools, 10 restaurants, 14 bars and clubs and a huge ballroom.

Four Melbourne passengers had coffee at Sandy's Sea Change Café after signing the visitors' book at the new Semaphore Information Centre.
