Semaphore’s Winter Solstice Feast

May 2, 2010

Join other visionaries, leave your prejudices and worries behind and join us for a taste of the future at the first  Winter Solstice Feast in the Masonic Hall on Semaphore Road on Tuesday June 22.

Experience Semaphore hospitality and conviviality and discover a brighter plan for our future, led by the western suburbs, with support from local government.

This enlightening event will be hosted by the Semaphore Information Centre and Adelaide Eco Info Exchange.

Following a thought-provoking welcome from Kaurna elder Auntie Josie, who made Kevin Rudd think a little, guests can tuck into a memorable feast of fresh local food and fresh local ideas.

New education minister Jay Weatherill will provide a glimpse of more community-focused education.

Dr Mike Bossley will tell us why the health and wellbeing of whales, dolphins and the Port River are so important to our future.

Dr Paul Downton will explain why and how the Christie Walk Eco Project is providing timely, on-the-ground answers to the really big sustainability questions.

Joel Catchlove of Friends of the Earth will describe the recent remarkable Plains to Plate event and its diverse outcomes.

You’ll find out how Transitions Adelaide West is helping locals to make a global difference.

Kalyna Micenko and Bob Daly will remind us why Harts Mill must be given back to the community.

And to lighten proceedings, Penny Lane House of Hair will present unique, exotic and slightly erotic fashions and new hairstyles.

John Williams will explain how leadership, mixed with the passion of local residents, traders and volunteers, has created the enviable Semaphore Information Centre.

Stuart Gifford will muse about E.G.Wakefield, W Light, E Howard, Rapid Transit and AD 1898 and their inter-relationship — garden cities, green walls and green roofs.

Throughout the evening all are welcome to ask questions at the Speakers’ Round Table.

A few surprises and a chance to win a special door prize.

Join in the Winter Solstice Feast for $50 per head, most of which will benefit our unique Semaphore Information Centre and Eco Info Exchange.
